The power of social media is not something to be underestimated. Australia, with its 10 million strong Facebook users is a community not to be overlooked by businesses looking to communicate their brand message. While many entrepreneurs are wooed by social media marketing, many business avoid social media in fear of revealing too much personal information that might result in a lawsuit.

However, there is no doubt that social media is a powerful force that can connect consumers and create conversation. Social media allows business to build a one-on-one relationship with consumer and create a community based on your the product or service you provide. Depending on the your approach to your social media profile, the effect of social media may vary.

The key to successful social media marketing is strategy. Determine your target market and brand your social media message around your target market’s likes and dislikes. Also, while you don’t want to bore your subscribers/ followers with boring sales or promotion geared messages, there is a fine line between personality and being personal. The world really don’t care if your cat scratched your couch. More importantly, avoid expletives completely and always remember, the world of social media is more connected than you think. Never ever rant about your clients unless you are in a self-destructive mood.

Social media marketing might sound like a big hassle with so much to look out for, but as long as you maintain a professional attitude while injecting some personality, you’re on the right track. Just remember that your online interaction plays an important part in your online image.
