South Australian crane company Max Cranes has earned a five year extension to its existing Cooper Basin crane operations contract with gas giant Santos.

The Port Augusta-based business, which employs 123 people in South Australia, was awarded the original contract in 2016 following a competitive tender process.

Santos Managing Director and CEO Kevin Gallagher said the contract extension reflects the company’s commitment to benefit the communities in which it operates.

“I am delighted to extend this important contract to local South Australian company Max Cranes. It has been a very reliable and competent contractor in the Cooper Basin for years,” Mr Gallagher said.

“Like Santos, Max Cranes is proudly Australian, demonstrating a ‘can-do’ attitude in the field with very reliable equipment and an exceptional safety record.”

Max Cranes Director Graham Elliot described the $47 million Santos contract extension as ‘a big moment for the company’.

“The partnership with Santos plays a key part in our organisational innovation, while underpinning the employment of a highly skilled and dedicated workforce,” Mr Elliot said.

“It is a privilege to be part of a relationship that drives strong community and business values as these are at the core of our own business.”
