Hundreds Hanging by the Thread

May 5, 2011 • News

Following news of the possibility that Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) might shift production offshore, news emerged that one or two of its SPC Ardmona division in central Victoria could be closed down.

If the plan goes ahead, hundreds of fruit-processing workers would face sack. SPC employs about 600 full-time staff in Shepparton, Mooroopna and Kyabram. During fruit-harvesting season, part time numbers contribute to the number of employees to more than 1, 000.

CCA’s move is driven by an 11 per cent fall in sales revenue last year and the high Australian Dollar.
