Leading Taiwanese ICT company Synnex has officially opened a new purpose-built logistics facility and its Oceania headquarters in Oakleigh South, bringing $150 million in investment to Victoria.
The facility was opened by Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Danny Pearson, the government said in a news release.
The state-of-the-art site, part of Synnex’s global network of 26 logistics centres, employs around 350 workers and uses advanced robotics and automation to enhance storage, logistics, and dispatch of hardware and digital solutions.
Synnex Australia, the largest distributor of IT products in the Asia Pacific, partners with over 60 vendors to deliver end-to-end solutions, ranging from hardware and software to cloud services.
Synnex Australia CEO Arthur Gimisis said the new facility represented “an important phase in our journey, made possible by the dedication of our people, the collaboration across our organisation, and the strength of our trusted partnerships.”
He added that the Melbourne site “positions us to continue supporting the evolving needs of the ICT partner community with greater scale, capability, and efficiency.”
Minister Pearson described the investment as “another vote of confidence in Victoria’s tech sector – global companies like Synnex are choosing to invest here because our economy is strong and our tech sector is booming.”
He noted that the government is “proud to back our digital tech sector and the 306,000 Victorians it employs.”
Member for Oakleigh Steve Dimopoulos highlighted the local impact, saying the facility “is a massive win for locals – strengthening our community’s role in Victoria’s growing tech sector.”
Victoria’s digital technology sector, the fastest-growing in Australia, contributes more than $36 billion to the state’s economy and represents 30 per cent of the national tech workforce.
Digital technologies are a key priority under the Victorian Government’s Economic Growth Statement, which aims to drive innovation, create jobs, and attract investment.
The Oakleigh South facility is part of Synnex’s ongoing global expansion, which includes major logistics centres in Taipei and Taichung.
