Australia’s sovereign submarine partners ASC and BAE Systems have jointly launched a new-look Industry Capability Network (ICN) Portal to strengthen Australian industry participation in the Nuclear-powered Submarine Program (NPS).
Announced during the Indo Pacific 2025 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney, the updated ICN Portal consolidates information previously managed by the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) and will now be jointly administered by ASC and BAE Systems.
Both companies said the portal serves as a central hub for Australian suppliers to register their interest, showcase their capabilities, and access emerging opportunities across the multi-decade NPS enterprise.
According to a joint media release, the transition will ensure continuity for hundreds of companies already registered while opening new pathways for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to qualify for work packages under what is described as one of the most complex industrial programs in Australia’s history.
ASC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Stuart Whiley said the initiative is designed to make it easier for Australian businesses to participate directly in building the nation’s nuclear-powered submarine capability.
“This portal is a gateway for Australian industry to play a direct role in our nation’s nuclear-powered submarines,” Whiley said.
“By working with our partners at BAE Systems, we are ensuring suppliers have a clear, simple, and continuous pathway to engage with the program and be part of Australia’s sovereign submarine capability.”
BAE Systems Australia Chief Executive Officer Craig Lockhart said the joint management of the portal reinforces the central role of local industry in the AUKUS submarine enterprise.
“Australian industry will be at the heart of delivering the SSN-AUKUS submarine enterprise,” Lockhart said.
“The transition of the ICN Portal ensures Australian businesses can register once and remain connected as opportunities grow, giving them the confidence to invest in the skills, standards and innovation needed to succeed in global submarine supply chains.”
