Lovells Automotive Systems is marking its 95th year in Australian manufacturing, highlighting nearly a century of engineering expertise and growth from a small spring workshop in Newcastle, New South Wales, to a global supplier of premium suspension components.
Founded in 1930 by George Lovell, the company has grown to support key industries including emergency services, mining, agriculture, rail, and transport infrastructure.
To date, Lovells operates the largest hot spring coiling plant in the Southern Hemisphere and employs more than 120 staff across research and development, engineering, trades, logistics, and sales.
To mark the milestone, Lovells has initiated a company-wide rebrand – the most extensive in its history – set to roll out across its business units, retail locations, and national distribution network.
The rebrand will extend to all physical and digital touchpoints, forming part of broader business activities planned for the second half of 2025. These include further investment in facilities, sponsorships, and customer engagement programs.
“This isn’t just a celebration of our past – it’s a clear statement of intent for our future,” said Simon Crane, Managing Director of Lovells Group.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built over the last 95 years, but we’re even more excited about what’s next. With a bold new brand, a world-class website, and major investments in R&D, we’re making sure Lovells is ready to lead for the next 95.”
Lovells’ products are designed for performance, safety, and durability, with applications in intercity trains, emergency vehicles, mining haul trucks, and recreational vehicles.
The company exports to more than 10 countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Greece, Kazakhstan, and Thailand.
“Our export success demonstrates that locally made doesn’t mean locally limited,” Crane said. “We’ve proven that with the right investment in people, technology, and product quality, Australia can be a global leader in advanced manufacturing.”
The company’s manufacturing operations are based in Newcastle and span two divisions: Lovells Industrial, which focuses on design, engineering, and production; and Lovells Automotive Systems, which oversees sales and distribution.
In addition to product innovation, including the use of high-tensile alloy steels and second-stage manufacturing certification for Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) upgrades, Lovells continues to prioritise local employment and skills development across its 200 points of presence nationwide.
