REMONDIS Australia has entered Western Australia’s organic waste management sector, acquiring a majority shareholding in GO Organics, a Boonanarring-based processor of food, garden, and liquid organic waste.

The acquisition, finalised on 1 May 2025, marks a strategic expansion for REMONDIS, one of the world’s largest waste and recycling companies.

Under the new ownership structure, the operation will continue under the name REMONDIS GO Organics, maintaining its established compost product branding and location approximately 110 kilometres north of Perth.

Founder Donovan Farrell will retain a minority stake and continue working with the business, which employs a range of composting methods to transform organic waste into certified compost, mulch and soil products for retail, commercial, and agricultural markets.

REMONDIS Australia said the acquisition supports its broader national objectives to strengthen organics recycling capabilities and reduce landfill dependence.

“Everyone from business and government through to residential households wants less landfill and more recycling, and advanced organics management is critical to that,” said Chris Gusenzow, General Manager WA at REMONDIS Australia.

Gusenzow described GO Organics as a leader in the processing of food and garden organics, with a strong track record of infrastructure investment.

He said the acquisition will allow REMONDIS to expand its offering by integrating collection, processing, and product sales across the full organics value chain in Western Australia.

“In cooperation with Donovan and the GO Organics team, we are joining forces for our customers. Ultimately, we envisage doubling processing capacity to around 124,000 tonnes annually in the not-too-distant future,” Gusenzow said.

He added that the business is well-positioned to participate in future food and garden organics (FOGO) and commercial food organics (FO) collection initiatives in the Perth region.

Farrell, who established GO Organics and helped grow its customer base across local government, farming, and wholesale markets, said the transition will maintain the business’s local focus while enabling greater growth.

“Our continued shareholding means that family touch will continue as we tap into the know-how of one of the world’s largest waste management operators,” Farrell said. “It’s highly likely we’ll be investing in more staff as we grow… The hands down winner though is the environment.”

According to both companies, existing operations and customer relationships will continue unchanged, with the acquisition paving the way for future investment in equipment, systems, and workforce expansion.
