Sparc Technologies Limited has announced a new collaboration with Dulux Australia to apply an ecosparc-enhanced protective coating system to the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse in Kingston South East, South Australia.
The partnership marks Sparc’s first coatings project with Dulux and its fifth real-world manufacturing application developed with major coatings producers, Sparc said in an ASX announcement.
The project will incorporate Sparc’s graphene-based additive, ecosparc, into Dulux’s epoxy-based Durebild STE coating system to protect the historic cast iron lighthouse from harsh coastal conditions.
Sparc said maintenance and coating works are scheduled to take place between November and December 2025.
Sparc Managing Director Nick O’Loughlin said the collaboration represents an important milestone for the company’s graphene additive technology.
“This collaboration with Dulux Australia is a meaningful step on the pathway towards commercialisation for Sparc, representing the second major coatings manufacturer engaging with ecosparc enhanced products in the field,” O’Loughlin said.
“The Cape Jaffa Lighthouse is an iconic National Trust asset and we are privileged to play a role in protecting this important piece of South Australian history well into the future.”
Dulux Australia Protective Coatings General Manager Vin Brereton said the partnership will serve as a valuable real-world trial of graphene-enhanced coatings.
“This latest strategic collaboration with Sparc Technologies will provide a real-life performance study of novel graphene-epoxy coating technology currently in development,” Brereton said. “Working with Sparc we are confident of developing new protective coatings which deliver improved corrosion protection.”
According to Sparc, the National Trust of South Australia also welcomed the initiative. “We are exceptionally pleased that this iconic Australian piece of history is being coated with a system including an ecosparc enhanced Dulux Protective Coating to provide longevity to the asset and protect it from corrosion,” the organisation said.
A webinar focused on the development and commercialisation of Sparc’s graphene-based additives is scheduled for 11:30 am AEDT on 12 November 2025.
