The Australian Research Council (ARC) has announced more than $62 million in funding for 13 new Industrial Transformation Training Centres and Research Hubs under its Industrial Transformation Research Program (ITRP).
The program is designed to support collaboration between university-based researchers and industry partners to address key industry challenges and national priorities.
The newly funded centres and hubs will focus on a range of areas including renewable and low emissions technologies, agricultural innovation, and digital health, the council said in a news release.
ARC Chief Executive Officer Professor Ute Roessner said the investment will help strengthen Australia’s research and manufacturing capabilities through targeted innovation.
“Bringing together leading Australian researchers and key industry partners, the newly funded Training Centres and Hubs will cultivate the next generation of industry-focused researchers to address current and emerging challenges,” Professor Roessner said.
She added that the outcomes of these collaborations are expected to “support innovation, strengthen Australia’s research capability and boost productivity across key sectors.”
Projects funded through this round include the development of reliable sensors and intelligent algorithms to monitor Australians’ health while protecting their data privacy, as well as initiatives to revolutionise soil and crop management practices in agriculture.
The ARC’s Industrial Transformation Research Program aims to build long-term strategic partnerships and foster research that directly benefits industry, ensuring Australia remains competitive in areas of global importance.
