ASC Pty Ltd has appointed Alex Walsh as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, with the defence and nuclear industry executive to step into the role on 12 December 2025.

In a media release, ASC said Walsh, who currently serves as the company’s Chief Nuclear and Capability Officer and Chief Operating Officer Multi-Class Sustainment Delivery, brings extensive experience across both the defence and nuclear sectors.

He has held a number of senior roles within ASC, including General Manager of Engineering, and is presently focused on Multi-Class Sustainment Delivery.

According to ASC, Walsh previously held executive positions at Sellafield Limited, the UK government entity responsible for the Sellafield nuclear site, where he served as Executive Project Manager and Executive Manager of Engineering.

His earlier career also included leadership roles at BAE Systems as Head of Nuclear Construction and Head of Nuclear Safety Engineering.

Walsh will succeed Stuart Whiley AM, who has led ASC since 2014 and has been with the organisation for more than 35 years.

ASC described Whiley as having played a key role in establishing Australia’s sovereign capability, beginning his work with the company at the start of the Collins Class program.

ASC Chair Bruce Carter AO said Walsh’s experience would support the organisation through its next stage of development.

“Alex brings deep organisational knowledge and extensive nuclear engineering experience that will support the ASC Board and executive leadership in transitioning ASC to a multi-platform, nuclear-capable organisation,” Carter said.

“He previously worked at ASC from February 2013 to October 2014 and then rejoined ASC in January 2022.”

Carter also acknowledged Whiley’s long-standing contribution to the company.

“Stuart has continued to demonstrate his unwavering commitment and dedication to ASC. We sincerely thank him for his outstanding leadership and more than 35 years of service to the organisation,” he said.
