BluGlass Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of BluGlass Limited, has become an approved supplier to India’s Ministry of Defence and secured its first purchase order from the department’s Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), valued at USD 230,000.
The deal marks a milestone for the Australian semiconductor developer, which specialises in gallium nitride (GaN) laser technologies used in advanced applications across the quantum, defence, and biotech sectors, BluGlass said in an ASX announcement.
The order is for the development and benchmarking of fabrication processes for GaN-based laser diodes, a critical component in next-generation defence and photonics systems.
“BluGlass is continuing to strengthen our strategic partnerships with government agencies and defence primes around the world,” BluGlass CEO Jim Haden said.
“We are pleased to now be an approved supplier and to secure our first purchase order for GaN lasers with the Indian Government.”
SSPL is a premier research institution under India’s Ministry of Defence, recognised for its work in advanced semiconductor materials and device development. The laboratory plays a key role in India’s defence research programs.
Haden noted that BluGlass was selected for its capacity to address highly complex technical challenges in laser development.
“India, poised to become one of the world’s largest economies, is strategically advancing its technological capabilities by integrating cutting-edge lasers and photonics,” he said.
“GaN lasers offer compact performance, higher photon energy, and improved temperature stability, making them ideal for underwater and atmospheric LiDAR applications, countermeasures and jamming systems, communications, and quantum sensing and computing.”
The company’s vertically integrated manufacturing model and focus on custom solutions are seen as strategic advantages in an increasingly complex global supply chain environment.
“BluGlass’ vertically integrated capabilities and focus on delivering custom solutions ensures our strategic allies and partners access to advanced laser technology with strategic supply chain advantages,” Haden added.
The announcement was approved by the BluGlass Board.
