Boral Limited has announced the acquisition of the Wallan Concrete plant, located approximately 45 kilometres north of Melbourne, as part of its ongoing strategy to strengthen operations in key growth regions.
The acquisition brings the recently built facility into Boral’s integrated network, enhancing the company’s ability to service customers in Melbourne’s expanding outer north, Boral said in a media release.
The Wallan site is situated near the Hume Freeway, offering logistical advantages for servicing both existing and future construction projects.
Matt McKenzie, Boral’s executive general manager, Concrete & Quarries South, said the move aligns with Boral’s focus on supporting long-term infrastructure and housing growth in the region.
“We know the long-term growth projection in Melbourne, particularly to the north, is strong, and Wallan Concrete’s proximity to the market, adjacent to the Hume Freeway, makes it well-positioned to service existing and future customers,” McKenzie said.
He described the plant as “practically brand new” and highlighted its strategic importance alongside Boral’s existing operations in Wollert.
“We’re very excited to have this great asset now part of our integrated operations and its potential to supply key projects in the Melbourne North region,” he added.
The acquisition also ensures continued employment for the skilled workers at the Wallan site, who have now joined the Boral team.
Boral marked the occasion with a welcome lunch for the new employees, attended by senior company representatives including General Manager Concrete Victoria, Corey Gatt, and Head of Strategy and Capital, Grant Lediott.
The Wallan Concrete facility operates six days a week and includes a dry batch plant, four cementitious silos, 10 raw material ground bins, a modern office with driver amenities, and undercover truck parking. The site is situated on freehold land.
Boral said the acquisition supports its broader operational strategy and reflects its commitment to investing in high-growth corridors across Australia.
