The Western Australian Government has opened a new $9 million round of funding under its Clean Energy Future Fund (CEFF), aimed at supporting innovative clean energy projects that contribute to decarbonisation and economic diversification, including opportunities for local manufacturing and production.
In a news release, the government said grants of between $100,000 and $4 million are available under Round 4 of the program, which supports projects that test and demonstrate clean energy technologies in Western Australia and enable their wider adoption.
Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson announced the funding during a visit to Electric Power Conversions Australia, a WA-based business that previously received CEFF support to retrofit a diesel mining haul truck to full battery electric.
“This fund is helping local projects turn ideas into action,” Sanderson said, adding that the government is focused on backing technologies that deliver “real emissions reductions and community benefits.”
Since its launch in 2020, the CEFF has received a total government investment of $37 million and has supported projects such as the electrification of mine haul trucks, replacement of diesel generators with battery storage, pumped hydroelectric storage, and redeployable solar power plants.
According to Sanderson, these initiatives demonstrate how clean energy innovation can be applied in industrial and resource settings that are closely linked to Australia’s manufacturing and production base. “It has supported a variety of clean energy projects including the electrification of mine haul trucks,” she said.
Priority areas for the latest funding round include projects that deliver benefits to First Nations peoples, support green exports and local manufacturing, increase renewable energy supply and energy network resilience, develop long-duration energy storage, and enhance productivity through electrification.
The fund is administered by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, with support from Energy Policy WA.
Sanderson said the investment reflects the state’s broader economic strategy, noting that “investing in clean energy is critical to decarbonising our economy and securing WA’s position as a leader in the transition to net zero.”
