Perth-based renewable energy materials company ClearVue Technologies Limited has announced the expansion of its ClearVue-Helios Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions to include modular, fully integrated solar carparks, carports and canopy structures.
According to ClearVue, the new ClearVue-Helios Solar Carpark offers a lightweight and low-cost system that generates up to 590 Watts peak per panel and achieves a payback period of less than four years before government subsidies.
The carpark design also features a two-post system aimed at reducing the risk of vehicle damage, and a modular metal-backed solar rooftop weighing as little as 5 kilograms per square metre, which the company said decreases embedded carbon while enabling modern architectural designs, the company said in an ASX announcement.
ClearVue Managing Director and CEO Douglas Hunt said the new system reflects the company’s goal of integrating renewable energy into construction materials.
“This is a product that goes directly to our mission to turn solar into a construction material,” Hunt said.
“It’s a gamechanging solution because the cost is remarkably similar to that of standard carports. Since the metal-backed solar product from ClearVue becomes the roof of the structure, it is incredibly lightweight, cost-efficient and boasts low embedded carbon.”
Hunt added that the solar carpark system provides additional benefits beyond energy generation.
“Our solar carports turn everyday parking lots into fully functional renewable energy hubs with high-capacity solar generation and payback periods of less than four years,” he said.
“They can even contribute to charging electric vehicles, provide lighting for safety and security and deliver tangible sustainability benefits.”
ClearVue said the carpark panels have been certified under IEC 61730 for PV module safety, IEC 61215 for design qualification and type approval, and UL790 for fire tests.
The ASX-listed firm said the installations are designed to be waterproof, fire-resistant and hail-resistant, with no exposed junction boxes or DC cables.
The prefabricated modular structure, which the company said can reduce installation time by up to 70 per cent, is suitable for large and medium-sized parking lots.
ClearVue stated that the system aligns with sustainability objectives for commercial, municipal and city facilities, combining renewable energy generation with safety and aesthetic benefits.
“This is one more way ClearVue is identifying additional opportunities to generate clean energy and transform underutilised infrastructure into smart, multifunctional assets for businesses, cities and communities,” Hunt said.
