The Board of Container Exchange (COEX) has appointed Trevor Evans as interim chief executive officer, following the conclusion of Natalie Roach’s three-year term as CEO in January 2026.
COEX said the Board thanked Roach for her contribution over the past three years and wished her well in her future endeavours.
According to the organisation, Evans brings experience from senior roles across industry, government and the recycling sector.
He previously served as chief executive of the National Retail Association and as the Federal Member for Brisbane.
During his time in government, Evans was appointed as Australia’s first dedicated minister responsible for recycling, waste and sustainability.
COEX said Evans will lead the organisation with the support of the Board while a permanent CEO is recruited, with an appointment expected later this year.
“Sustainability has always been close to my heart, and I’m looking forward to continuing that focus here at COEX,” Evans said.
COEX oversees Queensland’s Containers for Change scheme, which the organisation describes as one of Australia’s most successful recycling systems.
Since its launch in November 2018, more than 11 billion containers have been returned to refund points, resulting in $1.1 billion in 10-cent refunds being paid to Queenslanders, according to COEX.
