Engineers Australia has released the results of its 2025 Excellence Awards, recognising a range of engineers and projects the organisation says are contributing to Australia’s future development.

The organisation said the annual awards highlight the achievements of individuals and teams contributing to the advancement of engineering practice, community outcomes and national capability.

In a statement delivered at the national ceremony in Sydney, Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO said this year’s recipients demonstrated the influence and reach of the profession.

“Our 2025 people and project finalists are an outstanding field and exemplify the positive impact of the profession on so many facets of society,” Madew said. “They are the innovators, changemakers, leaders and mentors for the next generation of engineers.”

Madew said Engineers Australia continues to see engineering playing a central role in addressing complex challenges.

“Engineering is where creativity meets impact. It’s a career where you get to solve complex challenges, design the future and make a tangible difference in people’s lives,” she said.

According to Engineers Australia, the 2025 awards span seven national categories recognising excellence in emerging talent, professional practice, project delivery and lifetime achievement. Winners were selected from what the organisation described as a distinguished national pool.

Engineers Australia named Energys Australia’s Renewable Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator Pilot as Project of the Year, citing its delivery of Australia’s first commercial deployment of 10 kW PEM hydrogen fuel cell generators at remote telecommunications sites in Victoria.

The organisation awarded Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year to Patrick Puddefoot of Enviropacific for his contributions to sustainable water treatment and PFAS management, while Professional Engineer of the Year went to Dr Elisha Harris of Harris Kmon Solutions, recognised by Engineers Australia for her leadership in structural engineering and governance.

Engineering Associate of the Year was awarded to Adam Berwick of EFM Engineering, with Engineers Australia acknowledging his work in hydrogen fuel systems and professional development.

Engineers Australia also conferred Honorary Fellow status on six industry leaders for contributions spanning water management, public health engineering, environmental science, rehabilitation engineering, biomedical engineering and engineering leadership.

The Young Engineers Shadow Board received the President’s Prize, with Engineers Australia crediting the group for strengthening the voice of early-career engineers and informing organisational policy and culture.

The organisation awarded the Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal to Dr Robin J Batterham AO, describing him as one of Australia’s most distinguished engineers, whose career has influenced scientific leadership, engineering innovation and policy development nationally and internationally.
