Nissan’s Casting Australia Plant in Dandenong South has earned official Australian Made certification, with all its towbars and aluminium castings now bearing the iconic green-and-gold kangaroo logo.

The certification is awarded under strict criteria, ensuring that the product’s final significant transformation takes place in Australia.

The Australian Made symbol is among the country’s most recognised, with Roy Morgan research showing 99 per cent national recognition and 91% of Australians expressing a preference for more Australian Made products in the market.

“The Nissan Casting Australia Plant is a true local automotive manufacturing success story, and it’s one we’re incredibly proud of,” said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director of Nissan Oceania.

“Earning official Australian Made certification is recognition of the team’s hard work over a long period of time in producing world-class componentry that appears in Nissan vehicles around the world.”

Founded in 1982, NCAP now employs 192 staff and contractors and manufactures 25 different high-pressure die-cast aluminium components and six types of towbars.

The facility supports both domestic and global supply chains, producing parts for electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid e-POWER systems, and traditional internal combustion engines.

The transition toward zero-emission vehicles has seen NCAP adapt its capabilities. Today, the plant’s annual output of 1.2 million parts includes key components for models such as the Nissan Leaf, X-Trail and Patrol, as well as advanced Nissan electric motors.

NCAP also serves as the global sole supplier for 40 different components, including casting variants and accessories.

“For many years, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant team has included something of an Easter egg on each of its components sent overseas—a distinctive kangaroo insignia,” Humberstone added.

“Following the official Australian Made certification, it’s exciting to see the kangaroo take on a new and globally recognised life of its own with the Australian Made logo embedded for the world to see.”

Ben Lazzaro, Chief Executive of Australian Made Campaign Limited, welcomed the announcement, saying, “It’s great to see Nissan Casting Plant Australia strengthen its commitment to local manufacturing and begin stamping their aluminium castings and towbars with the iconic kangaroo.”

“There is a growing demand for Australian products, with country-of-origin increasingly influencing purchasing decisions,” Lazzaro continued. “As we know, Aussie products are manufactured to some of the highest standards in the world, making them trusted and known for their safety and quality.”
