Technology firm NoviqTech and battery recycler Livium have announced a partnership to digitise and tokenise the environmental outcomes of battery recycling operations, marking a new step towards data-driven sustainability reporting.
The collaboration centres on integrating Livium’s advanced battery recycling capabilities with NoviqTech’s Carbon Central platform, which uses Digital Twin technology to model operations, track mineral recovery, and measure carbon reductions.
The initiative is expected to enable the creation of tokenised environmental assets tied to real-time operational data, as revealed in a joint media release.
Under the agreement, Livium’s recycling of end-of-life batteries — which recovers key minerals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt — will be digitally tracked to calculate emissions reductions compared to primary extraction.
The results will be tokenised and recorded on the Hedera distributed ledger, providing a transparent and verifiable audit trail of sustainability outcomes.
Freddy El Turk, CEO of NoviqTech, said the partnership signals a significant advancement in environmental reporting.
“We are proud to work alongside Livium on this exciting initiative. Our Carbon Central platform will help transform how battery recycling’s environmental benefits are quantified and monetised, boosting transparency and trust across the value chain,” he said.
The collaboration is timely for Livium, which is expanding its operations in anticipation of increased battery volumes and has recently secured a Western Australian government grant to support site consolidation and national growth.
Livium CEO and Managing Director Simon Linge noted that digital innovation is increasingly essential in meeting evolving regulatory expectations.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that Governments globally are prioritising the modernisation of equipment, ESG reporting and sustainable practices. Partnering with NoviqTech allows us to bring digital innovation to our recycling operations, providing verifiable evidence of the carbon and resource savings we deliver. It’s a major step forward in supporting the battery supply chain’s transition to a circular and low-emissions model,” Linge said.
As part of the agreement, Livium will initially subscribe to NoviqTech’s Carbon Central platform at a basic tier rate of $1,000 per month.
Token volumes, which will reset monthly, and final pricing tiers will be confirmed during the course of the project.
Both parties have agreed to a month-to-month subscription model, with a 30-day notice period for termination.
While tokenisation is expected to generate new commercial opportunities, NoviqTech noted it is not yet in a position to forecast revenue, pending confirmation of Livium’s operational data and token volumes.
The joint initiative reflects growing interest in the use of distributed ledger and digital twin technologies to verify environmental claims and improve ESG performance.
Both companies have expressed their intent to align with emerging global frameworks such as battery passports and carbon emissions disclosure standards.
