The NSW Government has announced $760,107 in funding for Medovex Pty Ltd to develop an advanced medical device manufacturing and sterilisation facility in Wollongong, as part of a broader $2.8 million investment to drive economic growth across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.

According to the NSW Government, the project will enable Medovex to scale up production of medical devices designed for chronic back pain treatment and support small-batch sterilisation of equipment.

The government noted the initiative is expected to create five new jobs in the health and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said the funding supports innovation and helps regional businesses grow their technical capacity.

“Regional NSW is home to some of Australia’s most talented innovators, and I look forward to seeing Medovex use this funding to meet a critical need in equipment sterilisation and grow the technical arm of the business,” Minister Moriarty said.

Minister for Illawarra and South Coast Ryan Park said the investment aligns with the Minns Labor Government’s plan to strengthen regional economies through smart partnerships.

“This investment will provide a significant boost for the Illawarra by supporting the local economy and creating jobs,” Park said.

“This is about the Minns Labor Government working together with the private sector to support innovation and promote regional economic development.”

Member for Wollongong Paul Scully said the project represents a major win for the region’s growing innovation ecosystem.

“This will support new jobs and help Medovex deliver life-changing medical technology,” Mr Scully said.

“Skilled local fabricators, along with the research and education sector in the Illawarra, make the region ripe to play a greater role in medical device manufacturing.”

Medovex CEO Christopher Athavle welcomed the NSW Government’s support, noting the project’s significance for both the company and the state.

“We are excited to have the support of the NSW Government to continue developing an innovative back pain solution for thousands of Australians and many more around the world,” Athavle said.

“Making this product in Australia and NSW is a proud achievement for the whole team,” he noted.
