Opal, a recycling, paper and packaging business based in Australia and New Zealand, has unveiled its latest print and packaging technologies at its Innovation Expo, showcasing new digital systems designed to accelerate production and expand creative possibilities in manufacturing.

The event brought together customers, suppliers, designers, and creative agencies to experience Opal’s specialty packaging capabilities, including design, manufacturing, and national delivery, as revealed in a news release.

Attendees witnessed live demonstrations of high-speed printers, cutting-edge presses, and laser cutting systems, all integrated to highlight what Opal described as its end-to-end packaging solutions.

A central feature of the expo was the rollout of advanced digital printing and cutting technologies from Kissel+Wolf, including the Revo and iECHO, alongside the ESKO Automation Engine.

Opal said visitors moved through a staged experience, from having their photo taken against a laneway backdrop to touring a life-size cardboard house filled with packaging displays, before stepping onto the factory floor to see the technology in action.

By the end of the tour, their photos had been printed, cut, and finished in under 20 minutes, underscoring the speed and precision of Opal’s systems.

“The same print technology on show has been rolled out at Opal Speciality Packaging sites in New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand,  meaning customers can experience consistent, vibrant, high quality printing across multiple locations, which  can deliver freight efficiencies,” said Paul Godenzi, Regional General Manager, Specialty Packaging Victoria.

Jamie Weller, Managing Director of Kissel+Wolf, said Opal’s adoption of advanced digital technology marks a significant step forward for the sector.

“We’re proud  to collaborate with Opal to supply innovative digital solutions across multiple sites,” Weller said.

Meanwhile, David Watson, founder of Watson Design, said the expo offered valuable insights into how manufacturing and design can intersect to bring brands to life.

“It was impressive to see  the combination of smart structural engineering paired with stand-out print quality,” Watson said.

Opal said its investment in manufacturing technology strengthens its value proposition by providing customers with speed to market, flexibility, and scalable print runs.
