Orica has introduced its latest BlastIQ™ Underground technology, which leverages integrated digital solutions to enhance underground blasting performance.

Developed by Orica Digital Solutions, BlastIQ™ Underground enhances drill and blast productivity, enabling efficient management of blasting processes from planning to post-blast analysis, with user-friendly reporting, analytics, and information management.

The suite of integrated technologies enhances blast productivity by digitally communicating blast designs and re-applying charging designs based on hole locations, while also enabling engineers to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in drilling and charging operations.

Orica Vice President of Digital Solutions Rajkumar Mathiravedu said the company is continuously expanding its digital offerings to keep up with the rapid digital transformation in the industry.

“Our software ensures that every blast is executed precisely, and the desired outcomes are achieved. This level of accuracy translates into significant cost savings and improved resource utilisation for our customers. To better cater to our customers, we are amassing a digital technology portfolio that complements our core blasting technologies such as 4D Underground, WebGen, and Avatel,” Mathiravedu stated.

According to the company, BlastIQ™ Underground helps customers streamline their workflows, reduce operational costs, and gain a competitive edge in the market.

“We are shaping the future of underground mining and our digital solutions are a testament to our ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, productivity and sustainability,” Mathiravedu added.

Orica noted that the mining industry faces challenges in accessing critical minerals due to increasing demand. BlastIQ™ Underground offers data and analytics for performance metrics and blast outcomes while reducing environmental impact through precision drilling and blasting capabilities. This software minimises ground vibrations, air overpressure, and the environmental impact of blasting activities.
