South Australian manufacturer Offline Campers has received international recognition for its locally made Solitaire Hybrid Camper, winning an International Good Design Award for Excellence in Design and Innovation.

The company was named the Australian Good Design Award winner in the Product Design category, with the award to be presented at a gala event on Friday night.

The annual Australian Good Design Awards program is among the world’s longest-running design recognitions, celebrating products that exemplify innovation and functionality under this year’s theme, “Design for Better.”

Offline Campers founder Sam Reynolds said the Solitaire represented a new standard in offroad travel, combining durability with comfort.

“Our focus at Offline Campers is on building the highest quality campers, using Australian components such as steel and electronic fittings, aimed to withstand the harshest conditions of remote and off-grid locations so that people can travel further, for longer, and in comfort,” Reynolds said.

Manufactured in South Australia, the Solitaire Hybrid Camper features a queen-sized bed, a dining area for up to eight people, heating and reverse-cycle air conditioning, and an ensuite with a heated shower and toilet. It also includes a fully automated roof, awning, and levelling system designed to simplify setup for users.

Reynolds said accessibility and ease of use were key design considerations. “The Solitaire has been designed to suit people of all abilities and ages, with simple assembly an important design feature to ensure equipment is easy to access at any time,” he said.

The award jury described the Solitaire as a “really well thought out and adaptive solution,” commending its material choices, space-saving layout, and combination of off-road capability with the comforts of larger caravans.

“Overall, a clever all-round package and great example of Australian design and ingenuity in this very competitive market,” the jury noted.
