Australian metal additive manufacturing company Titomic has received a purchase order from Deutsche Bahn Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH to supply manufacturing equipment intended to support the maintenance of rolling stock components across the German rail network.

In a media release, Titomic said the order, which relates to the sale of a low-pressure Titomic TKF 523 system, will be used to assist Deutsche Bahn’s manufacturing and repair activities for rail infrastructure and trains.

The company described the contract as its first manufacturing-related order within the German rail sector.

Titomic, which is listed on the ASX, said its proprietary Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing platform, branded as Titomic Kinetic Fusion, enables the manufacture, repair and protection of metallic components without the thermal distortion associated with traditional manufacturing processes.

Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s state-owned railway operator, runs Europe’s largest railway network for passenger and freight services.

The company manages extensive rail infrastructure and operates long-distance, regional and logistics services.

Deutsche Bahn Chief Technology Officer Thorsten Hein said the railway operator had assessed the technology prior to placing the order.

“We have tested and studied Titomic Kinetic Fusion over the past several months and have been very impressed with the technology’s ability to allow us to rapidly repair and perform maintenance on key aspects of our rolling stock, saving both time and money and minimising downtime of our railway network,” he said.

Titomic Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Jim Simpson said the order represented a new manufacturing opportunity for the company in Europe.

“This order is the first for Titomic in German railways, and we are very excited about working with such a key railway network in Europe,” Simpson said.

“Our TKF systems are excellent for the repair of railway parts and structures, as well as anti-corrosion efforts and additively manufacturing parts. We have been working with railways in Australia for the past several years and are now very honoured to be working with the largest railway network in Europe,” he said.

Titomic said the contract aligns with its broader strategy to commercialise its manufacturing technology across industries requiring high performance, speed and precision, including aerospace, defence, energy and industrial markets.

The company identified the railway sector, which supports a wide range of parts and systems, as a potential area for future growth.
