Food delivery platform Uber Eats has partnered with packaging manufacturer Detpak to produce smaller-sized paper bags for deliveries in Australia and New Zealand and help reduce carbon emissions in the region.

Detpak, a subsidiary of the South Australian company Detmold Group, has introduced the “singles bag,” a smaller version of the standard-sized delivery packaging that can be used for single or small meals, snacks, and individual drinks.

The smaller Uber Eats bag will be manufactured using 100 per cent recycled paper, similar to the current standard-sized delivery bag also produced by Detpak

The original standard-sized packaging will continue to be offered in the packaging line, Detpak said in a media release. The new bag option is intended to help businesses save storage space and reduce delivery costs for small orders.

It is also expected to emit 47 per cent less carbon than the larger carry bag, according to, general manager for sales at Detpak Group.

“The community and the way in which we live is changing, and Uber Eats is recognising that there is a significant number of people ordering small or single items and there is a need to adapt to a new market,” Bolzon said.

“Practically speaking, these smaller bags mean less material consumption, processing and transportation which will help to reduce Uber Eats’ carbon emissions impact in comparison to the standard-sized bag.”

The packaging company has been a partner of Uber Eats since 2018.

“Uber Eats has been a valued customer for many years, and we have appreciated the opportunity to work with the company to create a paper bag which is more suitable for smaller deliveries and which reduces the carbon emissions impact compared to the standard-sized bag,” Bolzon added.
