The Victorian Government is supporting new economic activity in Benalla, announcing funding to advance a precinct aimed at attracting advanced manufacturing, logistics and sustainable industries.

In a news release, the government said the move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen regional economies and diversify future job opportunities.

The government confirmed a $240,000 grant from the Community Development Fund to help Benalla Rural City Council progress the Benalla Future Economy Employment Precinct.

According to the Victorian Government, the project will guide the transformation of the Benalla-Yarrawonga Road Industrial Precinct and Enterprise Park into a modern hub designed to support emerging industry needs, including advanced manufacturing.

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence said the investment would help prepare Benalla for long-term growth. “We’re supporting Benalla to build a resilient future through economic diversification and a shift toward sustainable industries,” she said.

The funding will enable an infrastructure needs analysis, conceptual masterplan and precinct design, along with a transport strategy to ensure safe and efficient movement as the precinct develops.

The government said the studies will identify gaps in the current industrial area and outline the upgrades required to accommodate future industry growth.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the precinct is expected to deliver long-term economic benefits. “This project will attract high-value industries and create long-term opportunities for the region,” she said.

Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the support aligns with the community’s strategic priorities. “This investment aligns with our community’s vision, as outlined in the Future of Benalla and District Local Development Strategy, and will pave the way for long-term economic growth, job creation, and innovation in our region,” he said.

The announcement builds on earlier Victorian Government support, including a $1 million Forestry Transition Fund grant for Midland Freight Pty Ltd and $500,000 for the council to help implement the Future of Benalla and District Local Development Strategy.

The government said Benalla is among 11 Victorian towns receiving funding through the Forestry Transition Program Community Development Fund.
