A major manufacturing facility will form the cornerstone of a $1 billion development deal for Bradfield City, the new urban precinct in South West Sydney, the New South Wales Government announced.

The agreement with global Australian development and investment company Plenary will see the first 1,400 homes constructed on a 4.7-hectare site adjacent to the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF), already operating in the precinct’s First Building.

According to the government, the AMRF is intended to establish Bradfield as a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.

“Bradfield City is coming to life with the release of the first Superlot to global Australian development and investment company, Plenary,” said NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully.

“This more than $1 billion partnership is set to deliver the first homes, a university and essential services like childcare, shops and health facilities, providing the foundation for the future growth of Bradfield City.

This builds on the momentum of the opening of the First Building, the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility, which is already establishing Bradfield as a hub for innovation with customers across Sydney.”

The development plan also includes a quarter of the precinct dedicated to advanced industries, alongside a hotel, academic facilities, essential services and commercial space.

Over time, the city is expected to accommodate 10,000 homes and 20,000 jobs, accelerated by the opening of the new Western Sydney Airport.

Plenary Chair Paul Oppenheim said the company was honoured to be selected as a long-term development partner.

“Central to the success of this project will be the delivery of 1,400 new homes, including more than 10% as affordable homes; complemented by a masterplanned precinct integrating a university campus, commercial space, childcare, retail spaces and a hotel – all next to the new two-hectare Central Park,” he said.

Oppenheim added that Plenary’s experience in delivering complex projects domestically and internationally positioned the company to realise the vision for Bradfield City.

The NSW Government said Plenary would now begin identifying academic and commercial partners to participate in the development.
