Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, featuring a 3D-printed hinge cover made from 100 per cent recycled titanium as part of the device’s hardware design.
According to Apple, the foldable phone uses a precision hinge engineered from more than 100 components to control its opening and closing while supporting the centre of the display. The hinge cover has a mirror-polished titanium enclosure and a contrasting micro-blasted finish.
“iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original,” Apple CEO John Ternus said. “With an entirely new design and intuitive experiences, it shows what’s possible when hardware and software are engineered together.”
Apple said the iPhone Duo uses grade 5 titanium, Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. The company also said the device has been tested to an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance.
When opened, the device has a 7.6-inch inner display, while its outer display measures 5.4 inches when folded. Apple said the inner display has a scratch-resistant coating and a custom polymer cover layer designed to withstand everyday use.
The company said the hinge cover is among the recycled materials used in the device, which contains 35 per cent recycled content overall. Apple also said the phone is manufactured using 60 per cent renewable energy across its supply chain.
The foldable is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and includes a custom vapor chamber for thermal management. Apple said the device delivers up to 35 per cent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.
