ClearVue Technologies has announced that its ag-tech subsidiary, OptiCrop (Israel) Ltd, has secured its first commercial greenhouse project.

The project will see the deployment of OptiCrop’s root-zone temperature management system across a one-acre greenhouse in southern Israel, valued at approximately AUD 80,000, as revealed in a news release.

The milestone follows ClearVue’s acquisition of the intellectual property and core assets of ROOTS Sustainable Agricultural Technologies in late 2024.

OptiCrop was established shortly after to commercialise and further develop ROOTS’ agri-tech innovations.

The technology at the centre of this project is a ground-source heat exchange system designed to stabilise root-zone temperatures, a key factor in plant health and productivity.

The system works by circulating nutrient solution through underground coils, using naturally consistent subsurface temperatures to either cool or warm the fluid before it reaches the plant roots.

Maintaining steady root-zone temperatures is particularly critical in controlled environments like greenhouses, where fluctuations – even when air temperatures are regulated – can disrupt nutrient uptake and plant growth.

The passive system is designed to reduce reliance on energy-intensive climate control equipment, offering a potential solution for protected cropping operations in hot or arid climates.

The new greenhouse project will be delivered in collaboration with a leading global provider of precision irrigation systems.

The unnamed company, which operates in 110 countries and supports more than 2 million farmers, is managing the construction and integrating OptiCrop’s system into the facility.

ClearVue’s Global CEO, Martin Deil, said the contract marks an important step for the company’s ag-tech division.

“This first sale for OptiCrop is a significant milestone for our ag-tech division and demonstrates early commercial traction in the protected cropping space,” Deil said.

“It validates our strategic direction following the acquisition of ROOTS IP and underlines the strong market potential for integrated solar greenhouses and sustainable climate-control solutions.”

Deil also highlighted the importance of the project partner. “The OptiCrop team secured this project being delivered for OptiCrop’s client by a global leader in precision irrigation solutions – an agrotechnology company working in over 110 countries, who have irrigated over 10 million hectares of land serving over two million farmers. This order demonstrates the demand for our technologies in the market.”

The company is targeting commercial applications in high-value crops and regions facing climate extremes, aiming to support the development of net-zero, off-grid, and resource-efficient food production systems.
