“Dassault Systèmes is proud to be a charter member of IACMI and will have the honour to work alongside partners in the non-profit sector, universities, national laboratories and private industry, as well as the Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office to enable innovation and competitiveness in the US manufacturing sector and drive the development of more efficient products,” said Bruno Latchague, Senior Executive Vice President, Americas Market and Global Sales Operations, Dassault Systèmes, in a press release.

The IACMI institute comprises of 122 members that will collaborate with DOE to create a more than $250 million manufacturing innovation institute focused on US leadership in next-generation composite materials.

Advanced composites are used in numerous industries, but are very expensive and need loads of energy to be manufactured. Recycling is also a major issue. Developing low-cost, high-production, energy-efficient manufacturing and recycling processes for composites applications is the main goal of the institute.

The new institute was announced last week by US President Barack Obama and is considered to be a crucial step toward fulfilling the President’s vision of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI).
