DroneShield has opened a new research and development (R&D) facility in Adelaide, expanding its Australian engineering footprint and supporting the development of counter-drone and electronic warfare technologies.
The company said the Adelaide hub will provide software development and dry laboratory facilities for engineers working across embedded systems, sensing, communications, software and electronic warfare capabilities.
The facility was officially opened by South Australian Minister for Defence and Space Industries Chris Picton, with DroneShield saying the site will complement its existing R&D operations in Sydney.
DroneShield CEO Angus Bean said the Adelaide expansion would help the company access engineering talent and extend its Australian R&D capabilities.
“Adelaide has established itself as one of Australia’s leading centres for defence and advanced technology innovation,” Bean said.
“Opening our Adelaide office strengthens our ability to access exceptional engineering talent and further expand our Australian research and development capabilities.”
According to DroneShield, the facility will support the development of next-generation counter-drone and electronic warfare technologies as drone threats become increasingly complex.
Picton said the investment reflected South Australia’s growing defence industry and would contribute to local employment and innovation.
“DroneShield basing its R&D hub in Adelaide is a huge vote of confidence in our state’s growing defence industry,” Picton said.
“The new facility will create highly skilled jobs, boost local innovation and strengthen our national defence.”
DroneShield said the Adelaide R&D hub forms part of its continued investment in Australian research, engineering and technology development for domestic and international customers.
