Australia’s largest wind farm project, Golden Plains Wind Farm, has forged an alliance with Energy Locals to empower local residents with renewable energy benefits.

The collaboration introduces the innovative Community Energy Program, offering eligible residents within a 3km radius of the wind turbines the opportunity to enjoy financial savings and environmental advantages on their electricity bills, Energy Locals said in a news release.

Mark Bruty, spokesperson for Golden Plains Wind Farm, emphasised the commitment to making renewable energy accessible to the local community.

“Teaming up with Energy Locals allows us to extend the benefits of our wind farm directly to eligible residents, empowering them to embrace sustainable living while enjoying financial savings,” he stated.

The Community Energy Program, a joint initiative, provides registered and habitable dwellings within the designated radius the chance to offset a significant portion of their electricity costs.

By switching to Energy Locals, eligible residents can receive credits of up to $1600 per annum, equivalent to the annual usage of an average Victorian home.

Luke Melisi, chief commercial officer for Energy Locals, expressed excitement about the partnership and the chance to contribute to community benefit-sharing innovation in the renewables sector.

“Through the Community Energy Program, residents can embrace renewable energy developments with ease, knowing that they are contributing to a cleaner and greener future.”

Golden Plains Wind Farm, located in the Shire of Golden Plains, is a state-significant project featuring 215 turbines with a capacity of approximately 6.2MW each.

Once fully operational, it is expected to generate over 4,000 GWh per annum of electricity, powering more than 750,000 homes and preventing over 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

To participate in the Community Energy Program and reap the benefits, eligible residents simply need to switch to Energy Locals as their electricity provider.

Beyond financial savings, participants can also opt for a complimentary energy audit, receiving tailored recommendations to reduce energy consumption and optimise performance.
