The Tasmanian Liberal Government said it has partnered with top-tier Tasmanian defence sector manufacturers in the Republic of Korea in an effort to boost the state’s business opportunities and markets.

The trade mission, led by the Tasmania Premier Jeremy Rockliff, is aiming to provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with trusted partners, such as Hanwha Group, over the course of two days, the premier said in a media release.

Premier Rockliff stated that this initiative is yet another crucial chance to promote new business for the Tasmanian industry.

He added it can also raise awareness of the state’s expanding strengths in the fields of renewable energy, defence, and aerospace.

“There is no doubt Tasmania has what the world wants, and our government is ensuring we can further grow our markets, so that jobs and our economy can benefit,” the premier said.

Rockliff added that the trade mission plan is assisting Tasmanian companies in showcasing their strengths, and by utilising the premium Tasmanian brand, the premier said the initiative can potentially open doors to foreign buyers, distributors, and trading partners.

In order to expand Tasmania’s understanding of prospects to work with Korea, the premier said he has already met with senior defence officials on this trade visit, together with Catherine Raper, the Australian ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

“This trade mission will build business opportunities for our high value, high-performing defence industries,” Rockliff emphasised.

He concluded that Tasmania will keep looking into possible links for trade and partnerships between its jurisdictions as well as develop new relationships.
