
LG Electronics is accelerating its robotics manufacturing capabilities through a strategic collaboration with NVIDIA, combining the company’s manufacturing and logistics data with NVIDIA’s robotics development technologies.
In a media release, LG said senior executives from both companies met at its Data Factory, currently under construction at the Yangjae R&D Campus in Seoul, to review their collaboration and discuss opportunities to advance robotics commercialisation. The meeting followed a memorandum of understanding signed by LG Group and NVIDIA in California on August 13.
The Data Factory is scheduled to become fully operational by the end of 2026 and is designed to support the collection, validation and development of data for robot learning. LG said the facility will include training environments where robots perform tasks across home, manufacturing and logistics settings.
One simulated manufacturing environment is modelled on LG’s washing machine plant in Tennessee, where LG CLOiD home robots are being trained to move, stack and assemble parts. Other environments support logistics automation and the training of robotic hands.
LG said data gathered from these operations will be integrated with NVIDIA’s robotics technologies, including its Omniverse libraries, Cosmos open-world models and Isaac robotics development platform. The company expects data collected and synthetically generated at the facility to reach 100,000 hours by the end of the year.
The facility spans four floors and 10,000 square metres and is expected to house several hundred robots by the end of the year. LG said it will continue upgrading its data-learning systems as it develops its Robot Foundation Model, which supports the performance of humanoid robots.
For LG, manufacturing and logistics data accumulated through its operations are a key part of its approach to what it describes as physical AI. The company said repeatedly collecting and using high-quality data to train and improve robots will create a “data flywheel” for its robotics development.
LG has also established a Robotics Business Center, reporting directly to the CEO, to oversee the company’s robotics operations. The company currently operates in industrial and commercial robotics and plans to expand further into home robotics.
