FOOMA Japan, one of the world’s largest comprehensive food processing technology exhibitions, is set to take place in Tokyo in June, featuring innovations that could help international manufacturers replicate Japanese food products at scale.
The Japan Food Machinery Manufacturers’ Association will hold the event from June 2 to 5 at Tokyo Big Sight.
With the theme “The Shift Is On,” the four-day exhibition will host 1,025 exhibitors displaying more than 7,000 products across 21 different categories of food processing technology. The event will feature a dedicated “Innovation Program” focused on automation, digital transformation, and robotics applications.
According to the organisers, Japanese food processing technology addresses a key challenge facing international food manufacturers: producing authentic Japanese cuisine while maintaining quality and texture standards.
The technology specialises in handling production runs with high product variety and lower volumes, which differs from conventional mass production approaches. These systems are designed to preserve delicate textures and presentation requirements specific to Japanese food products.
The association notes that the adoption of Japanese automated food processing equipment is growing in Asian markets.
“By implementing Japanese automated equipment, local food manufacturers and food service companies are simultaneously achieving manpower-saving and quality standardisation, enabling them to expand production capacity while adhering to specific Japanese quality standards,” the organisation explained.
The exhibition will feature various categories, including specialised machinery unique to Japanese food production, such as equipment for processing sushi, rice balls (onigiri), and assembling bento boxes. The show will also feature advanced freezing technologies and AI-powered foreign matter detection systems designed to improve labour efficiency.
The exhibition will provide support for international visitors through a global information desk and maps identifying export-focused exhibitors. The event will run from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
