Luxury motor yacht manufacturer Riviera has been awarded the 2025 Australian Apprenticeships Leadership Medal, highlighting its commitment to developing skilled tradespeople for the marine industry.
The award was presented to Keira Badke, Riviera’s Apprentice and Training Manager, during the inaugural MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees Stakeholder Event held in Brisbane as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
The recognition reflects Riviera’s ongoing investment in training and mentoring, which the company says is a core part of its values.
Badke, who leads Riviera’s apprenticeship and training programs, accepted the medal on behalf of the company.
“They really are the master craftsmen and women of the future and from their very first day with Riviera we want our apprentices to know that we will do all we can to help them be the best they can be,” she said.
In January 2024, Riviera launched its Academy of Excellence – a purpose-built, 680-square-metre training facility located at the company’s headquarters.
The Academy features two operational workshops, learning hubs, a drafting room, offices and meeting areas, and currently supports 128 apprentices.
The facility aims to provide apprentices with practical training and mentorship from experienced tradespeople, including boatbuilders, marine engineers, electricians and upholsterers.
Beyond technical skills, the company also delivers personal development through its Propel Program, which focuses on financial literacy, responsibility, teamwork and other life skills.
Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst, who began his career as an apprentice carpenter and joiner, has played a significant role in shaping the company’s training culture.
His personal motto – “Never stop learning; never see work as a dirty word; never stop believing in yourself” – is displayed at the Academy and reflects the company’s approach to supporting its workforce.
“Our tremendous investment in our Academy of Excellence reflects our long-term support for all our team,” Longhurst said.
The company, which is marking its 45th anniversary this year, also acknowledged the role of MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees in supporting vocational careers since 1988.
