With the doors opening for Australia’s largest and longest-running food manufacturing industry event, foodpro 2023 has welcomed more than 400 exhibitors showcasing healthy products and the latest technologies in food manufacturing.

Being held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the show was officially opened by MP Bronwyn Halfpenny, Parliamentary Secretary for Jobs on behalf of Minister for Industry and Innovation Ben Carroll.

“The Victorian Government has established food as one of the key five areas that are vitally important to Victoria. We understand that isn’t easy for businesses small and large in this area, so we are pleased to partner with this event to help put Victoria on the map for the food and beverage industry,” Halfpenny said.

In particular, Kerry, a pioneer in taste in nutrition for the food and beverage industry, presented a number of delectable samples to visitors showcasing their technologies.

Students studying food technology at universities, who they referred to as the “next generation of scientists,” showed interest in Kerry’s advances.

Hawkins Watts, specialists in food, beverage, and supplement ingredients, prepared a variety of free sample recipes using their ingredients, including their wildly famous vegan mac n’ cheese croquettes.

Gelita, experts in gelatine, functional proteins, and collagen peptides, presented a variety of all-natural, clean-label components that are pure, natural, and devoid of allergens.

Businesses have reportedly expressed a strong interest in applications for collagen-infused goods such as collagen gummies and iced tea mix, according to Gelita.

Meanwhile, Thermo Fisher Scientific, a leader in the field of food safety testing, presented a wide array of testing equipment this year, including the Orion Versa Star Pro, which is used to test for listeria as well as evaluate the characteristics of liquids.

The company said that the Listeria Precis Methods significantly reduce processes for efficient laboratory operations while providing up to a third faster time to result for detection compared to other validated rapid culture media-based methods.

John Ho from Connell Bros spoke at the Wiley Product Innovation Stage about Natural Blend Solutions for Food Preservation, which examined the new DuraShield blends created by Kalsec to prevent the growth of spoilage germs.

Visitors were also shown by Karin Blacow of Commercial Food Sanitation how a proactive approach to hygienic design will improve sanitation effectiveness and have a beneficial influence on product up-time and product shelf life.

At the Schneider Electric Smart Food Lounge, Brad Yager from Schneider Electric presented Driving sustainability through digital transformation for the food and beverage industry, as well as the latest technology and businesses collaborating to satisfy customer demands.

Meanwhile, CSIRO’s Joe Liu spoke on Precision Fermentation – a rapidly growing technology in the food industry using microorganisms to produce various food and beverage products.

The show runs from 23 July to 26 July 2023.
