Construction has officially commenced on the Central Coast’s Food Manufacturing Innovation Hub, marking a key milestone for the region’s food manufacturing sector.
The $17.14 million project, fully funded by the Australian Government, is set to enhance the Central Coast’s reputation as a destination for food and beverage production.
The facility will cater to established and emerging food manufacturers and will include pilot and training spaces aimed at fostering innovation, product development, and workforce skills.
Central Coast Industry Connect (CCIC), which has long championed the development of the hub, is overseeing the project in partnership with Central Coast Council, the University of Newcastle, and Regional Development Australia Central Coast.
Frank Sammut, Executive Director at CCIC, said the project was the result of years of planning and advocacy.
“This is a long-time vision that we have had for the Central Coast, and it’s great that we are now on our way to making it happen,” he said.
A key feature of the new facility will be the Manufacturing Advancement Centre, which will provide tailored support to businesses across the region.
Services will include technical and product development support, management and shop floor training programs, and access to a network of specialised service providers.
The centre is expected to cater to the needs of businesses of all sizes, across both food and non-food manufacturing.
Although the hub is not scheduled to open until March 2026, CCIC has already begun rolling out programs designed to support the industry ahead of its completion.
These include training initiatives in areas such as Manufacturing Leadership, Product Innovation, and Machine Operation.
“Between now and when the hub opens, it is planned to have programs developed, piloted, and proven so we can hit the road running when the hub officially opens,” Mr Sammut said.
An interim Skills Hub has also been established at the University of Newcastle’s Ourimbah campus, featuring newly installed training equipment.
The site is currently delivering training programs open to students, industry professionals, and small business operators.
