Metakosmos, a Sydney-based startup that focuses on developing next-generation spacesuit technology, announced its participation in the New South Wales (NSW) Space Research Network’s (SRN) Seed Project Program.

Recognised for its role in identifying and nurturing early-stage space technology startups with significant growth potential, the SRN Seed Program emphasises collaboration between academia and industry to enhance capabilities within the space sector.

In line with this mission, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has been awarded a grant to collaborate with Metakosmos on a groundbreaking project – the Digital Optimisation of Spacesuit Form & Fit.

The primary objective of this collaborative effort is to address the challenge of customising spacesuits for individuals with varying body shapes and sizes.

Leveraging proprietary digital optimisation techniques, the project aims to revolutionize the design and production of spacesuits, ensuring custom fits and sizing for astronauts of all body types.

Kiriti Rambhatla, CEO of Metakosmos, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the SRN Seed Program.”

He added, “We look forward to the support from UTS and collaborating with Dr. Nico Pietroni, whose work on geometry processing mesh parametrization and digital fabrication will be groundbreaking for this collaboration.”

Metakosmos has engaged in defence incubator initiatives and partnered with esteemed research institutions like CSIRO.

In 2023, Metakosmos was honoured with the Innovation Award at TechConnect in Washington DC and secured the Space category award at the inaugural SXSW Sydney.

Presently, the company is actively developing the initial iteration of its commercial spacesuit platform.
