The Tasmanian Government has announced $2.3 million in funding for infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the state’s waste and resource recovery sector.

Minister for Environment Madeleine Ogilvie said the funding is being delivered through the reinvestment of the landfill levy, with grants designed to support businesses and councils in reducing the amount of material sent to landfill.

“Our Government is delivering a range of projects in the pipeline that will make a difference for Tasmanians and which support a circular economy, science and innovation,” Minister Ogilvie said.

She added that the funding is part of a broader program overseen by the Tasmanian Government and the Tasmanian Waste and Resource Recovery Board to expand the state’s recycling and resource recovery capacity.

“We are working together to move our State forward and these grants continue to be rolled out, supporting the upgrade of facilities, purchase of specialist equipment and collection services,” Minister Ogilvie said.

The second round of the High Priority Infrastructure Grants Program opened earlier this year after the first round of funding in 2024 was considered a success.

Eligibility for the grants was limited to operators of Tasmanian waste and resource recovery facilities that receive more than 1,000 tonnes of material annually.

Nine applicants have been awarded funding, with individual grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.
