Tilt Renewables has opened a 100 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Latrobe Valley, marking an addition to Victoria’s growing energy storage network.

The company, which describes itself as Australia’s largest owner of wind and solar generation, said the new facility would enhance grid reliability by storing electricity for use during peak demand periods, as revealed in a news release.

Tilt Renewables added that the project supports a stable and efficient energy network while helping manage long-term costs for households and businesses.

The company said the Latrobe Valley BESS contributes to the Victorian Government’s legislated energy storage targets of at least 2.6 gigawatts of capacity by 2030 and 6.3 gigawatts by 2035.

The state currently hosts 12 large-scale energy storage systems with a combined output capacity of 1,028 MW, more than any other state in Australia.

The new facility joins a line-up of major storage projects across the state, including the 300 MW Victorian Big Battery and the 600 MW Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub.

According to Tilt Renewables, the project highlights Victoria’s strong investment environment, supported by natural resources, skilled talent, and established infrastructure.
