ASX-listed cold spray additive manufacturing company Titomic is the latest addition to SAE International’s sponsors for the development of SAE Cold Spray AM Specifications.

The specifications, once developed and approved, are intended to enable large organisations in the aerospace and defence sectors to easily adopt cold spray technology in their processes. This would accelerate the adoption of cold spray as a mainstream manufacturing and coatings technology, Titomic said Tuesday.

Formerly known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE International is a standards-developing organisation for engineering professionals in various industries including additive manufacturing.

SAE International tapped Titomic in late 2022 to participate in the development of the specifications. Titomic’s offer to participate in the development was accepted following an assessment of the Australian company’s cold spray journey and achievements.

The new standards are expected to include a clear framework for various applications of cold spray components, including in aerospace, providing stakeholders with confidence and reassurance.

Aside from sponsoring the specifications, Titomic has also been welcomed to join the SAE AMS-AM Metals and Repair Subcommittee, which develops a strategy and roadmap for AE AM specifications.

“We are honoured to be a part of this program and consider our participation in the development of these specifications a great opportunity to assist the Cold Spray Industry and create a platform for growth and support. Being invited to contribute to these standards also provides recognition for Titomic as a global leader in cold spray,” said Dominic Parsonson, head of sales at Titomic.
