Weld Australia has convened Western Australia’s leading players in the welding industry for the 2023 WA Welding Excellence Awards.

The event, held at Beaumont on the Point in Perth on Wednesday night, 18 October, showcased and recognised businesses and individuals that contributed significantly to the state’s local sector.

Geoff Crittenden, CEO of Weld Australia, said this year’s winners in WA awarded industry players who have committed to the pursuit of innovative, sustainable solutions that minimise risk and maximise project outcomes, as well as initiatives to increase the breadth and depth of skilled labour within the welding sector.

“The 2023 Western Australia Welding Excellence Awards not only spotlight the world-class contributions of our local talent but also underline the industry’s continuous drive for excellence. At Weld Australia, we are immensely proud to elevate and celebrate those who are setting new benchmarks in quality, safety, and innovation in welding,” Crittenden said.

Hofmann Engineering, a provider of specialist engineering services to Australia’s industry leaders, has won the 2023 Company of the Year Award – Fabrication.

Bosong Engineering won the Project of the Year Award for its project that involved the meticulous repair of oil and gas casing joints, commissioned by a prominent international oil and gas service provider.

Alphaweld Supply Group was recognised as the Company of the Year in the Supplier category for its wide portfolio of premium products.

Among the winners are BHP and South Metropolitan TAFE, who were jointly recognised in the Training and Education – Organisation Award.

BHP received the award for the BHP FutureFit Academy, a program that delivers modular 12-month Maintenance Traineeships and 24-month Trade Apprenticeships. The initiative aims to significantly increase female and First Nations representation in mining and trades.

Meanwhile, South Metropolitan TAFE, one of WA’s most diverse training providers, offers more than 340 qualifications, including tailored relevant welding and fabrication training.
