Training Minister Simone McGurk will head a team to the United Kingdom to promote Western Australia as a premier investment location and key green energy initiatives and projects.

In a media statement, the government said the mission will centre on exchanging information and ideas about renewable energy, as well as how WA and the UK can work together to build the people required to support these prospects.

The SPE Offshore Europe exhibition in Aberdeen, Scotland, is a key engagement for the mission.

With roughly 40,000 delegates anticipated to attend over three and a half days, the exhibition provides a crucial venue for Europe’s energy business to explore a sustainable energy future.

In particular, the ‘Team WA’ booth will be prominent on the event’s floor, highlighting the state as a leader in the next wave of global energy generation.

The 2023 exhibition will also mark the event’s 50th anniversary, with an emphasis on propelling the oil and gas sector into a green energy world.

Minister McGurk is due to deliver a series of presentations emphasising how Western Australia is establishing the groundwork to become a worldwide renewable energy powerhouse, as well as its objectives to guarantee that no community is left behind.

“This mission is a fantastic opportunity to showcase WA as a premier destination when it comes to the renewable energy sector and all it has to offer,” Minister McGurk said.

She said that since the UK has the largest migrant population in Western Australia, there has always been a strong labour connection between the two nations.

“I’m looking forward to meeting with leaders and experts in the United Kingdom and using the knowledge gained there to help develop the skills and workforce for our green energy future,” the minister noted.

Minister McGurk will also meet with the Nuclear Skills Task Force in London, as well as the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Net Zero, and Just Transition.
