Aurora Labs has secured its first US order for three Australian-designed and manufactured AU4 turbojet engines, with the US$42,000 deal supporting an experimental aircraft program for a US-based aerospace and defence company.

The Australian technology company will supply the engines and provide product integration services to help incorporate the propulsion systems into the customer’s aircraft platform.

According to Aurora Labs, the buyer is a new commercial relationship and is not a specialist defence prime or volume-based customer. The company has requested anonymity due to commercial sensitivities during its business establishment phase.

Aurora Labs chief executive Andrew Garth said the order marked a step in expanding the company’s international customer base.

“Our first US engine sale is a practical step in expanding Aurora’s international customer base,” Garth said.

“While the initial order is modest in value, it gives us an opportunity to demonstrate our propulsion technology with a US customer and build our presence in a larger aerospace and defence market.”

The company said the experimental aircraft program would provide an opportunity to test its propulsion technology against performance objectives, with the results expected to inform the development of future defence applications.

The US order complements Aurora Labs’ Australian operations and international commercialisation activities. These include a A$250,000 order for 20 AU4 propulsion systems from Sovereign Propulsion Systems, announced in December 2025, and a teaming agreement with European defence group MBDA announced in May 2026.

Aurora Labs said its immediate focus was delivering the engines and supporting their integration, while exploring potential applications across additional aerospace platforms.

However, the company confirmed that any further orders would depend on customer requirements, successful integration and separate commercial agreements. No follow-on orders have been announced.

“We are focused on delivering the engines and supporting their integration, while developing opportunities for further commercial sales,” Garth said.
