The Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) have renewed their memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen business cooperation and manufacturing ties between Australia and Malaysia.
The signing of the updated MoU comes as the two nations mark 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, underpinned by a longstanding economic partnership valued at more than AUD 30 billion in annual two-way trade.
Ai Group Chief Executive Innes Willox said the agreement reflects the evolution of business ties and the growing significance of regional collaboration.
“By working together, we can better support our industries in navigating global challenges and unlocking new growth potential,” Willox said in a statement.
Signed in Sydney by Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President of FMM, and Louise McGrath, head of Industry Development and Policy at Ai Group, the renewed agreement outlines joint commitments to support manufacturing businesses across both countries through initiatives such as shared participation in trade missions, training and capability-building programs, and investment facilitation.
“This partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing cross-border collaboration and creating new opportunities for our members,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai.
The MoU, first established in 1991, will continue to facilitate strategic partnerships between member companies, improve information exchange on business opportunities, and provide advisory and logistical support for visiting delegations.
Ai Group said the partnership would help Australian manufacturers expand into Southeast Asian markets and reinforce Australia’s economic integration with Malaysia.
“Partnerships such as the one with FMM are key to ensuring Australian businesses can diversify and find new opportunities among our closest neighbours,” the group stated.
