Toyota has unveiled its new-generation HiLux in Australia, featuring significant improvements in driveability, interior technology, and an exterior design developed by Toyota Design Australia.
The new range starts at $33,990 for the base 4X2 WorkMate single cab-chassis manual and comes in multiple configurations, including cab-chassis, pick-up, 4X4 and 4X2 drivelines, single, extra and double-cab body styles. All grades come standard with Toyota’s 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.
The entire range also comes with major improvements, such as new electric power steering, enhanced active safety technology and the latest-generation multimedia system.
In a recent announcement, Toyota also revealed that a battery-electric version will join the lineup in 2026, targeting fleet, mining and business buyers seeking an electric vehicle that maintains the functionality and performance of a traditional ute.
“Adding a BEV variant to the HiLux range in 2026 will be a boon for businesses looking to reduce the carbon footprint of their light-commercial vehicle fleet, and showcases Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification,” says Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice president for sales, marketing and franchise operations.
“Australian HiLux customers demand a lot from their vehicle, whether it’s tackling harsh outback terrain in extreme temperatures, or hauling a tray full of tools around suburbia day in, day out,” he added.
“Its bold, contemporary exterior design, led by our local design team in Australia, along with the extensive testing and evaluation carried out here, make it the most Australian HiLux yet.”
The new HiLux lineup features five model grades: WorkMate, SR, SR5, and the flagship Rogue and Rugged X variants designed for on- and off-road performance. WorkMate and SR grades are offered with the choice of 4X2 or 4X4 drivelines, while the rest of the range comes in 4X4 only.
All variants are powered by Toyota’s 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, delivering 150kW of power and either 420Nm of torque with the six-speed manual gearbox or 500Nm with the six-speed automatic transmission.
The new HiLux is available in up to seven exterior colours, including newly introduced Ash Slate and Sunglow, alongside existing options of Glacier White, Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Eclipse Black and Feverish Red.
