Australian government approves food pathogen detection methods for export meat products

The Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture has officially approved Life Technologies Corporation’s  MicroSEQ® Real-Time PCR workflow as a test method that will detect pathogens in export meat and meat products.

The MicroSEQ® Real-Time PCR workflows will be used to detect E. coli O157:H7 in raw ground beef and beef trim, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes in meat and meat products, according to a press release.

Australia is one of the world’s second largest beef exporter, with many of the products subject to testing as part of the trade agreements between Australia and importing countries. Microbiological testing is usual practice by both exporting and importing countries following government approved methods at regulated laboratories to ensure the quality of the export products.

The approved total workflows include use of PrepSEQ™ Rapid Spin Sample Preparation Kit or Automated PrepSEQ™ Nucleic Acid Extraction Kit, MicroSEQ® Detection Kits and 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR Instrument, guided by the RapidFinder™ Express Software to gain data.
