Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) today announced it will donate A$1 million to the Minderoo Foundation Fire Fund to assist communities impacted by the devastating bushfires in regions across Australia.

The Fund has been established by Fortescue Founder and Chairman Dr Andrew Forrest AO and Nicola Forrest AO to assist in three key areas – immediate response through the mobilisation of volunteers, supporting the rebuilding and revitalisation of local communities and economies and investing in Australia’s long-term resilience.

Fortescue Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Gaines said, “It is heartbreaking to see the devasting impact the bushfire crisis is having on people, communities and wildlife across Australia and our thoughts are with those affected and the emergency personnel on the ground fighting these fires.

“At Fortescue, our values of family and safety reminds us daily to look out for your mates, and this extends to supporting our fellow Australians in their time of need.

“To this end, we will be donating A$1 million to the Minderoo Foundation Fire Fund which will not only provide immediate relief to communities impacted by the bushfires, but also assist with long-term recovery efforts,” Ms Gaines said.

In addition to this contribution, the Fortescue family is fundraising for the Australian Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, with Andrew and Nicola Forrest committing to match every dollar donated with two dollars to the Minderoo Foundation Fire Fund.

Fortescue will also support the Minderoo Foundation’s response to the bushfires through seconding team members with specialist skills and supporting employees who are willing to volunteer with relief and recovery efforts for impacted communities.
