Israeli company Nano Dimension announced the acquisition of the technology and intellectual property of Additive Flow, a UK-based firm that provides solutions for 3D design simulation and optimisation.

In a press release, Nano Dimension said software for mechanical, thermal, thermo-mechanical, frequency, and fatigue properties has been created by Additive Flow for a variety of materials and processes.

The Additive Flow solution also covers design, production, and quality decisions while simultaneously optimising cost, weight, manufacturing productivity, and manufacturing yield.

Companies in the advanced optics and optoelectronics, aerospace and military, semiconductors, advanced energy, and electronics sectors make up Additive Flow’s clientele.

According to Nano Dimension, the acquisition marks a significant turning point in the company’s product development strategy.

It claims that the AI and GPU-accelerated tools from Additive Flow will improve the capacity of Nano Dimension customers to quickly and affordably recreate, design, and enhance prototypical layouts of AME electrical components.

As part of the acquisition, the core technology of Additive Flow will be integrated into Nano Dimension’s proprietary design package suite, FLIGHT.

Alexander Pluke, chief executive officer and chief technology officer of Additive Flow expressed his delight that the Additive Flow team is joining Nano Dimension.

“Our solution was born out of real engineering challenges we faced to harness the capability of advanced manufacturing. Our platform is built from the ground up to handle all the complex data and decisions of digital engineering, so teams can focus on their key goals,” Pluke stated.

He added, “We are fortunate to have found a great partner in Nano Dimension where our innovation can be leveraged to its maximum potential. We look forward to building on our impressive track record and continuing to develop Additive Flow’s software and enhance Nano Dimension’s leading AM and AME product offerings.”

Nano Dimension’s Senior Chief Technology Officer, Nick Geddes, stated that the company has been looking at the software market for simulation and optimisation products for some time.

“There are many strong solutions in the market that do certain elements of those complicated tasks, but it is Additive Flow’s product that stood out in terms of the functionality we needed for a holistic solution, especially in the context of our requirements across AME and multi-dimensional polymer, metal and ceramic AM,” Geddes noted.

He added that the acquisition will significantly strengthen its customers’ capacity to capitalise on leading digital manufacturing solutions.
