Fairfield residents now have a convenient new location to recycle their eligible bottles and cans with the unveiling of a new Return and Earn machine in Fairfield West Plaza.

Replacing the Fairfield Heights machine removed last November, this new return point marks the 19th instalment in Fairfield City, offering locals a hassle-free way to redeem their eligible containers for the 10-cent refund.

James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, the network operator for the scheme, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Fairfield City Council residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned over 310 million eligible bottles, cans, and cartons through local return points since the scheme began.”

He added, “This means more than $31 million in container refunds has been returned to the local community.”

Recyclers can opt for various refund methods, including vouchers redeemable at Coles, e-vouchers, or direct payments into their bank or PayPal accounts via the Return and Earn app.

Moreover, they can choose to donate their refund to charity partners listed on the machine or on the app.

Currently, PCYC Fairfield-Cabramatta is featured as the local donation partner on the Fairfield West Plaza machine, supporting educational, fitness, and life skill activities and programs for youth in the area.

Additionally, recyclers can contribute to the state-wide Return and Earn donation appeal in support of the RFS Benevolent Fund, aiding RFS members and their families during challenging times.

Return and Earn has emerged as a significant fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW, with over $47 million raised since its inception in 2017.

More than 10.9 billion containers have been returned for recycling through the network of almost 620 return points across NSW, resulting in over $1 billion in refunds.

Encouraging residents to incorporate Return and Earn into their regular recycling routine, Dorney remarked, “Together we can all contribute to a more sustainable future, where the materials that our bottles, cans, and cartons are made of are kept in use and out of landfill.”

The Fairfield West Plaza Return and Earn machine, located at 368 Hamilton Road, Fairfield West, operates daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
